It’s time!

A while back, you may remember me chatting about the office renovations of one Ms. Nicole Balch of Making It Lovely. Well, her gorgeous space has gone through a whirlwind of transformations, and it’s fabulous — as we knew it would be!

Take a look & be sure to visit her blog for more inspiration!

Such a wonderful look! Just think about how much work you could get done in a fresh and fantastic space like that one! And again, I ADORE the little spot, the table & chairs, which bring her children into the room. Lovely indeed!

Have you taken on any home renovations lately? What would you dream home office look like?

Home Office Design With Making It Lovely’s Nicole Balch

One of my very favourite design bloggers is currently working to improve her home office space and I just spied a little video tour on her site that I’d love to share with you fine folks.

Nicole Balch is the brilliant mama-of-two behind Making It Lovely — and incredibly sweet and informative lifestyle and design blog, capturing all sorts of neat trends, while following her life as a new mother of two sweet-as-can-be kiddos. I’ve been reading her blog for a few years now (back when she was pregnant with her first babe) and it’s been so fun to watch her transform her space, and now that she is conquering her (already pretty fabulous) home office, I can’t wait to see how things will turn out!

She’s already got some great ideas, as you’ll see in her video — and maybe you’ll even spy an idea that you can bring into your OWN home office space!

Click here to watch the video!

I really love how she’s already been incorporating her children into her workspace. We can’t always keep the babies at bay when we’re working from home, and so it’s great to see design which brings them right into the space. Nicole’s little table for her daughter, and area for her son are two fun ways to keep your kids entertained and happy while mama types or creates! Maybe it even helps our little ones find their own creative, entrepreneurial selves — only time will tell!

Visit Making It Lovely for more adventures with this oh so stylish mama. She’s also the brains behind Pink Loves Brown, currently on hiatus while Nicole enjoys time with the newest member of her family.

Follow @makingitlovely on Twitter or check her out on Facebook. You also don’t want to miss out on her Pinterest picks — brilliant!

Home Office Tour: The Big Transformation

June 13, 2011 by

I’m so excited to show off a new feature on the blog this week, mes amis! For a while I’ve been toying with the idea of sharing some really neat home office tours on Mom Made That! and today I’m bringing you a very special tour, from the partner of a blogger you may very well know and love!

I’ve been reading Annie’s blog, PhD in Parenting, for several years now, and so I was honoured when her partner agreed to show off his home workspace. Check out the story behind this unique “office” and find out how this family found some much needed space in an unlikely place!

From Annie’s partner: “I have been a stay-at-home dad for five years while pursuing my graduate studies. Our house is not very big, so we were looking for a solution to have a home office and maybe also to add a guest room and a second bathroom. Since adding rooms or a floor were prohibitively expensive for us, we looked at our underused detached two-car garage. I totally gutted it, insulated it, put in new windows and a new floor and after two years of long work in the evenings and on weekends, we now have a “guest house” with a huge office, a guest room and an extra bathroom. Luckily, my father-in-law owns a hardware store, so we got a good price on the materials.”

“It is very nice to work in this room, physically separated from the main house (and the screaming children), without having to worry about leaving papers lying around only to find it decorated with crayon drawings by the kids. The only issue was the internet connection, since we live in a rural area without high-speed access. However, through a wireless provider we now have a relatively decent internet access most of the time.”

What a great space! After reading this I feel like I’d LOVE to have a home office just outside my main house… how quaint would it be to have a little spot, all to yourself, in your yard or somewhere on your property? For those of us with tiny homes, this might not be an easy task, but with a bit of creativity, I think we could all come up with a solution that works for us! Feel free to share your ideas in the comments!

Have any of you taken on a transformation like this one? If you have a great home office space to show off, big or small, just send an email to desireefawn at gmail.com with the subject line “Home Office Tour”. We’d love to feature you on the blog! Ciao!

Savvy Home Business Women: How Do They Do It?

April 25, 2011 by

Personal blogs are always my favourite spots to find inspiration — especially when it comes to learning about the lives and businesses of other women. This week I’d like to highlight three wonderfully savvy business women who have been kind enough to share some of the secrets to their success with their readers.

Making it Lovely‘s Nicole has always struck me as a wonderful example of a mama who’s kicking butt while running her home business. As the brains behind Pink Loves Brown, and her beautiful blog, I’m always inspired by her words. In 2010 she wrote a great post dedicated to showcasing a day in her life.

I’m taking us all the way back to 2009 for this post, because I feel that it’s incredibly useful and I’ve found myself going back to it time and time again, especially when I need a little boot of WAHM confidence! Girl’s Gone Child‘s Rebecca is full of wit and wisdom when it comes to conquering life as a work from home mama. (Now she’s doing it all with two beautiful — and two more on the way!)

Lastly, Kathleen (of Jeremy & Kathleen fame) isn’t a mama, but she is exceptionally busy with her freelance design business while managing several rental properties. Check out her wonderful post outlining the importance of keeping a to-do list, along with some valuable insight into her creative process.

Are you feeling inspired by these business savvy ladies? Do you see any tips that you might be able to work into your daily life?

Wallstory Murals is an online Do it yourself children’s mural store with fun and easy DIY mural designs you can paint yourself.

I believe everyone has an element of natural creativity in them and with these Paint by Number mural designs you can ‘unleash’ that creativity and paint your child a mural that will not only thrill your child but you’ll get to bask in the admiration of your friends and family (Admit it we all like to show off a bit now an then). It really is child’s play to paint these murals. If you can color in a coloring book then you can paint one of my murals. The kits come with the pattern, transfer paper, a color guide and instructions.

We’re all tightening our belts at the moment, so every saving we can make counts for a lot. By decorating or revamping your child’s room yourself you can make a huge difference without breaking the bank. If the design or theme that you’re looking for isn’t in my selection, then chat to me about a custom design. I love designing it’s such fun! So email me and lets chat (don’t worry, there’s absolutely no obligation).

So come see what you could do now at www.wallstory-murals.com and don’t forget to sign up on my Children’s DIY decor blog www.wallstory.wordpress.com and receive new ideas and inspiration for decorating your child’s room.
