We’re all ADDICTED to Etsy right? I know I can’t get through a day without browsing through for some neato handmade one-of-a-kind, or vintage wares. And I’m always SO impressed with the personality that many sellers put into their shops. I really enjoy buying from a REAL person — someone with a story to tell, a goal, a bit of magic to offer the world!

Just recently, Babble unveiled their picks for the Top 50 Etsy Moms of 2011 — a phenomenal list filled with more talent that I can fathom!

Check out their full list for some serious shopping inspiration. It’s never to early to start thinking about Christmas! And while you’re at it, you won’t want to miss the latest listings from Mom Made That!

Who would YOU pick for the Top Etsy Mom of 2011? Are you an Etsy Mom too?

Featured Mom: Santa Barbara Creation

Today’s interview is bound to inspire us all! This creative mom is running her Etsy shop at age 90! It’s never too late to get started — see what Santa Barbara Creation‘s Sheila Ehrman has to say about her crafty biz.

01. Tell us a little about yourself!
I was born in Liverpool, England in 1920 (yes, I am 90!) and loved to knit, crochet, sew and do crafts from a very young age. I have lived in California since 1950 after marrying my World War II American sweetheart in Chicago. I have two children, Judi aged 60 and Brian aged 58 and their spouses and children. My husband died in 1959 at age 45.

02. What lead you to creating your own business?
My grand-daughter, Lisa, was my inspiration to start an Etsy shop. After seeing my beading work and crocheting, she said “You should open a shop on Etsy” and I replied “What’s Etsy?” I soon found out and started Santa Barbara Creation in May, 2010 which I set up and invited a friend who loved to knit to join me. She has since opted out of the project so I am running it alone.

03. Describe a typical day in the life of YOU!
Because I am unable to drive due to age and disability, I spend a lot of time at home. After brewing a cup of tea in the morning my next action is to check my e-mail to look for an Etsy sale and messages from friends far and wide. After completing my household chores, I usually work on beading or crochet for a couple of hours. I like to work in my garden and also enjoy searching websites for the pleasure of seeing other artists’ creations. I enjoy having lunch with a group of younger friends (all between 50 – 60 years old) from my art group who call me “Momma She”!! I spend a lot of “quality time” with my daughter and she, her hasband and I share the same home. Incidentally, I crocheted the neck scarf, earrings and necklace I am wearing in the picture.

04. Your best piece of advice for others working from home?
My advice would be to keep creating so when the big break comes you will have plenty of inventory.

05. Favourite music? Book? Movie?
I enjoy Show Tunes music; biographies and nature stories: romantic and mystery movies.

06. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
It is anyone’s guess where I will be in 5 years time but I hope I will still be running Santa Barbara Creation!!!

TAKE THE “BUY MOM MADE” PLEDGE:

We are rock-n-rolling on Mom Made That! and I have some wonderful news!  I have joined forces with TipJunkie.net and CreatedbyMom.com to create BuyMomMade.org, which is a movement that raises awareness about mom businesses.  Please stop by and take the pledge to “Buy Mom Made”! You can also grab the button to place on your website.  Please spread the word about this fabulous movement!  Anyone can take the pledge, not just moms.

HOLIDAY PARTY:

Our holiday party is hopping!  We are about to wrap up our third week of giveaways and a new giveaway will appear tomorrow.  Remember, if you want to participate in our holiday campaign, it is not too late!  All you need to do is LIST WITH US and you qualify!  Everyone who participates in a holiday giveaway or offers a holiday discount are automatically featured in our 2009 Mom Made That! Holiday Guide.  Our Holiday Guide already has over 2,500 page views!

BTRENDIE:

Mom Made That! has teamed up with bTrendie, a members-only shopping community that hosts surprise sales and deals on new and hard-to-find designer, brand name, and mom-designed items. The best part is that membership is FREE!  To sweeten the deal even more, bTrendie is giving away a $130 Caden Lane Diaper Bag/Tote to one lucky Mom Made That! member.  All you have to do to enter this giveaway is REGISTER HERE.  Good luck!

IMPORTANT – CHANGES IN LISTING FEES & ADVERTISING:

Mom Made That! is growing.  Because of this, it has become a full-time job for me, which is wonderful, but since it has become more time consuming, I have to slightly raise our fees, beginning January 1, 2010.  The good news is for those currently listed on Mom Made That!, or for those who list before January 1st will not see a change in rates.  As long as your account stays active on Mom Made That!, you will be charged the same low, original rate!  The new rate will only apply to new listings.  The rate change will be very minor, but I still wanted to make you aware of the change.  Your account must stay active to retain the low rate.

Our advertising (button & banner ads) fees will also go up from $40 to $50 a month on January 1, 2010.  Again, if you are currently advertising with us, your rates will stay at the original rate.  If you would like to purchase a year’s worth of advertising, you can do so for the low rate of $400. (a $200 savings with new fee starting next year)  Let me know if you are interested – I currently have two slots open for button ads.

Thank you for your understanding.  As our readership and followers on Twitter increase, our listings and work load increase as well.  Also, since I am traveling more and spreading the word about Mom Made That!, we are really starting to make a name for ourselves in the internet space.  Currently, I have several interviews lined up, where Mom Made That! will be mentioned!  I’ll keep you posted on that and more exciting developments.
